Today was our first day in Uganda and we spent the morning at Bless Hope Orphanage. Not only did we get to start our week off worshiping with these beautiful children but also today we National Orphan Sunday! So we got to spend time worshiping and praying for the orphans that were right there with us. WE got to look into their eyes and tell them that Jesus loves them! We got to sing with them and hear them sing for us. The best things was being able to hug each one and ask their name.
The Lord commands us to care for the orphans. James 1:27 “Pure and undefiled religion before your God and Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their is tress and to keep oneself unstained by the world.” There is not a question mark at the end of the sentence.
The Lord has really appended my eyes to this these last few years, we as believers must stand up for these children and we must care for them. There are too many people in the world that treat animals better than children and I know that breaks God’s heart. There are enough believers around the world that there should never be children alone with out someone to love and care for them. As I write this I am thinking of the little boy we say last night coming into Kampala. It was about 1:00 in the morning and we see a boy asleep on the side of the road. He looked to be about 10 years old. How many of you have a 10 year old in your family? My nephew is 10 years old and it breaks my heart to think of any child any age that would have to sleep on the street! ALONE!
So today on Orphan Sunday will you pray for these children and ask the Lord to show you what you are suppose to do to help care for these orphans? They are not just here in Uganda but they are in your hometown as well. Again we are not asked if we would care for the orphans we are told to care for them. So what are you going to do today? What is your church going to start doing today? Come on brothers and sisters in Christ we must step up and do what the Lord has commanded for His children. We are not all called to adopt or foster but we are ALL called to care for them!
A great place to start is right here with Sweet Sleep. Help Provide beds for these children. Help these children find their forever families through the new ministry of Sweet Sleep, Heart for 1. Find out more on their website www.sweetsleep.org. Donate their as well. $50 provides a complete bed kit for one child in Uganda. (A mat, blanket, mattress, mosquito net and a Bible)
As I go to sleep tonight here in Uganda I pray that you all will make a commitment to the Lord to do your part whatever that may be to care for the 153 million orphans around the world!
